2 sleeps

Aghhhhhh – the nervous excitement adrenaline is seriously kicking in now. I normally need 8-9 hours a sleep a night to survive, but currently only sleeping for 6 hrs! Not sure where the other 3 hrs have gone. I’m getting that sick feeling too, I know it’s all going to be so good, but just excited/nervous/tingly feeling, must be what wakes me too early. Rod left for Melb yesterday which means I have the house to myself for the weekend. Has turned out quite good really, have time to pack and re-pack and finalise things. Had a relaxation massage yesterday, then an early dinner of nachos. A couple of glasses of wine, some yummy chocolate and 3 DVDs Rod wouldn’t wanna watch. Today going to Mum’s to watch WCE vs Collingwood, I just hope its a good match and not a one sided affair.

Unwrapped

I had such an awesome weekend I felt motivated to blog about it! Friday night the UniClub turned 5 and I went to their birthday celebration with some friends from work. It was such a great night. Yummy canapes, a couple of glasses of wine and lots of dancing to the great band. An awesome way to start the weekend.

On Saturday I went to the WCE vs Carlton practice match at Leederville Oval. Was a great atmosphere, a nice change from Subi Oval. WCE won of course. Then I met my friend Liz and we ventured off to Unwrapped, markets in South Perth – all the stalls had hand-made items – it was unreal! I bought some cool things – the purple beads I have on today at work are new. I love the purple colour! I bought this awesome black onyx necklace with a lovely clasp that I can wear with my new dress to my friend’s wedding later this month.

In the evening a group of 10 went to Zappatas for Rod’s birthday – yummy Mexican food and great cocktails – a shame the bar closed at 9pm – a tad early I thought for a Saturday night. It was still a fun night even tho there were a few mishaps – don’t talk to me about Transperth :(

Sunday I vegged for most of the day which was needed and then went to Social Tennis in the afternoon with a couple of mates from tennis lessons. It was great – so glad we finally got to go. We all played quite well for our first time on grass. The swim and the wine afterwards made it a great way to finish a fantastic weekend.

Talk is a SUCCESS!!!!

Well it’s done, I just presented my talk, and it went off really well. I was able to ad lib a little bit as I fetl really comfrotable about it. I had a pretty full room, luckily not the size of the hall, but about the size of the UWA Library meeting room. So it was all kind of casual, which helped me a lot. Most of the WA contingent were there, all mingled in around the room, lots of support there, thank you everyone!!! There were quite a few questions and I was able to answer most of them bar one, something about the software we use in the MFD???? Too technical for me, but otherwise all great!!!

I WILL blog later about everything else I’ve done since being in Adeliade, I’m pretty tied but having the best time otehrwise.

Ciao for now!!! :-)

The day has finally arrived…..

I can’t believe it has been 2 years to get to this stage. I remember when I was in Melbourne for the 2007 conference thinking, “I can do this, I can write a paper and stand up in front of a large group of people and talk about something happening in my library“. Well it’s only a few days until I present my paper.

I can’t believe I have actually written the paper. I was so scared at first. Like I really liked the idea of doing it but putting pen to paper was pretty difficult to start with, but I got there evenutally with a lot of support from friends near and far and work colleagues, so thanks to you all – you know who you are! It was a lof of hard work and many long hours of editing, re-editing and re-editing again, but it was all worth the experience and the PD sessions I attended, (especially Rachel Green’s).

I am really excited and can’t wait to get to Adelaide. It’s going to be a great weekend spending time with my boyfriend and his sister and seeing the sights. Having a bit of relaxation time and chilling out is just what I need.

Come Monday when I check in and meet up with my LT friends, it will be all go. I plan to try and blog daily about my experiences, so watch this space! :-) (After I’ve presented I will attach my paper and / or presentation to my blog so you can all check it out – if you’re interested).

It’s going to be so much fun, I can’t wait :-)

Don’t retire Wirra

Oh no Wirra is having a press conference tomorrow, making me feel sad. My last favourite Eagle boy from the “oldies” – sad, even though it’s great he’s got a little boy now called Marley. Maybe when he’s grown up he can come and play for the WCE under the father/son rule, that would be awesome.

I will miss seeing Wirra on the field, he is just a top bloke, a nice guy and an awesome player. Hopefully – he’ll go 1 more year. Come on Wirra!

*****It’s official, Wirra has retired :-(   A fantastic player to watch, crafty, silky skills….. I’ve been a member of WCE for about 17 years, roughly as long as Wirra has been with the Eagles, it won’t be the same without him…… But we do have our rookies coming up, so that is something to look forward to. Enjoy your retirement Wirra and your new son, Marley. You will be missed on the footy oval!!!

Quick trip North

What a weekend it’s been – have loved every second of it. First was the Pink concert which I’ve already blogged about, and then the Eagles had an AWESOME win!!!! Just so exciting man! A shame I didn’t see the first half but we were driving up to Ledge Point, bout an hour and half north of Perth for a night away from the hustle and bustle of Perth!!!! Bust listening to the Eagles on the radio on the way up was exciting too, I was screaming lots :-) Arrived at Ledge Point in half time, unpacked and sat down in time for an amazing 2nd half, up, and down, in front and then not. I was beside myself…. yelling at the umpires and the tv – it was a great game wish I had been in Melbourne for that!!!!! OK we are in the bottom half of the ladder, but we played so well, so great for the young guys!!!!

We enjoyed a relaxing time away from Perth, even though it was a short trip. Been a big week for me, finally finished my paper and been working hard on conference stuff. Rod has been doing his chuditch project. Was nice to be beside the sea and the weather was beautiful, lovely and sunny, I was in shorts in winter :-)

Today we enjoyed a game of tennis – so hot. And then on the drive home we went via Gin Gin, tried to go to Fini Olives, but it was closed. Went to a nice winery, Riseborough Wines tried a few whites, very cheap wine so bought a few bottles. Was a nice drive home via the Swan Valley.

We both are feeling relaxed, and refreshed for a new week. I need to work on my slide presentation and my talk, but I’m not stressed, have done quite a lot of work over the past few months.

Melbourne weekend

Last weekend we went to Melbourne on the red eye flight. Arrived in Melbourne Friday 5.3oam. It was freezing cold!!! We were lucky to be able to have a snooze at Rod’s cousins before heading into the city for a late lunch with Rod’s family. Very relaxing day. Beautiful sunny weather, but a tad cold. In the evening we headed to the footy, Eagles vs Carlton.

Both happy before the game

Both happy before the game

Good result for Rod’s team, my team were rubbish to say the least. But Le Cras was fantastic, he kicked an awesome goal! We had seats very close to the action, which I was happy about!.

We stayed in the city Friday night. I did a bit of shopping Saturday morning(very naughty of me, supposed to be saving for SA) and we had a lovely Belgian Hot choc at Theobroma Chocolate Lounge, Spencer Street, just the best. Basically its a mug of hot melted Belgian chocolate, my favourite!  Then we headed south on the train to my friend’s in Mitcham where we had a fantastic night at their Engagement Party.

Great shot

Great shot

We spent a relaxing day with friends on the Sunday, eating left over party food and yummy chocolate cake. It was a fantastic weekend of footy, family, friends and shopping.

Wikis and Library Lingo

I was extremely frustrated with the technology last night for the first time since starting this project. I haven’t really had any problems up until now trying to access the Libary Lingo wiki. I had a search and a play in Wikipedia, didn’t bother to add any info as it seemed to be all there, (My search term was West Coast Eagles, surprise, surprise).

I spent a good hour on Library Lingo late yesterday afternoon, one reason is because everytime I tried to add or edit a page IE kept crashing. It was driving me insane as I kept losing the wording I had just created. Finally got there in the end. I added some words to the Document Delivery page and created a new page titled MFD. I thought it was very easy to do when the system was working correctly!!!!!

Except now that I’ve gone back to check my writing, I can see that the page MFD sits on the Blog page, now that can’t be correct, can it? I’m not sure just yet (might need to have a play) how to move this to another space? Any ideas…….. hmmmmm.???

Well I had better get back and see how I can fix that……

See you all tomorrow for our last workshop :-(

RSS feeds and Google Reader

OK, I think I have my head around the topic of RSS feeds and readers now. I do already have 2 RSS feeds which (when working correctly) appear in my In Box. A great way to keep in touch with friends without visiting their websites.

I have selected 3 different blogs to add to Google Reader (as well as all Participants and Presenters blogs’ :-) ):

Tapena Wines

I travelled to Spain for the first time last year and its an understatement to say that I LOVED their tapas. We ate tapas whenever we could. Our first taste wasn’t exactly what I would call traditional tapas. We had only just arrived in Valencia, after a very long and delayed flight from Perth to Singapore to London; a mad rush to a smaller airport to jump onto a cheaper flight to Valencia. Anyway the first tapas we had was a chicken nugget on a piece of bread – I was not impressed, it had to get better (and it did).  Since then I have made tapas for my friends and I can’t get enough of them.

My favourite Tapas

West Coast Eagles

Every week I am checking out the WCE site, so it makes sense to have an RSS feed to it. It’s great to be able to read all the ins and outs, the injuries and the stories from all the AFL teams from this one RSS feed.

The LIS Education 2.0 Project

This is my library related blog I have chosen to use as an RSS feed. It arrived in my ALIA email folder and I have never had time to check it out. Now I will be update to date with the comings and goings of 2.0 technologies and libraries. Maybe everyone else would like to check this out?

PS. From using Google Reader for the week, I have deleted my Outlook RSS feeds ( too complicated…) and now read these feeds in my Google Reader, too easy!!!!! :-) And it downloads pictures much better than Outlook does.

A win for Mum

I went to the footy with my parents yesterday and had said to Mum what a good present for Mother’s Dayif the Eagles could win today. We really should have won by more than 8 points, we still have issues with kicking goals…. hopefully we’ll win more this year…… don’t think we’ll make the finals but at least we’ve been there before. But as they say a win is a win, much better than a loss! :-)
