I’m still here

I know I’ve been a little quiet lately and not posting here. Just been so busy, but life is great. Feb was so busy and chaotic getting things done for the conference. My sub-committee and I had a long meeting one Saturday to review abstracts and place them into our program template, it was like spending 3 hours doing a jigsaw. Extremely rewarding seeing the finished product – the prelim program. That was nearly 4 weeks ago and it’s constantly changing – but all good.

In Feb too we had 2 weekends away. The first was to Mandurah Quest Apollo Apartments, a weekend with my family. It was just so good. The pool was just awesome and the canals were on our doorstep. We played lots of games, taught Mum how to play Mahjong and Rod – Canasta, so that was lots of fun. Swam heaps, drank wine and had a fine time. :-) (Photos on FB).

The weekend after that we went camping to Dwellingup with some school buddies, now that was another awesome weekend. It was so hot that weekend we all went swimming in the river, it was unreal at Bob’s crossing, the water was just divine. We used Pete’s kayaks up and down the river, very relaxing. The kids had the best time swimming in their life jackets. It was the perfect weekend with mates. On the way home on that Sunday Rod and I stopped at Rockingham Beach for a glorious swim. I used to swim there when I was young, step back in time.

So that was Feb and now it’s March – the month I have been looking forward too for so long. Beginning of the month it was Rod’s birthday so we went to Just Tapas Bar in Como for dinner with my family. It was nice and we got an awesome discount with Entertainment Card, was nice to try something new and different. That Friday night Rod went out for birthday drinks and that was fun too. There was a group about 6 of us, some Rod’s mates, my bro and his mates, so it was great. Another hot night. I didn’t drink too much as I had a Girls Night the next day at Burswood. A few of my very close school buddies stayed over night at the Holiday Inn (next time it will be the Burswood proper!!!) Anyway we had a ball even though the service was terrible. Cocktails by the pool, mocktails for the pregnant ones, some swimming, lots of talking, talking, eating, drinking, talking and talking and me taking photos (see FB). We all love catching up esp those with kids, get to have a night off and enjoy themselves. We all had the best time and I think this time was much better as we totally loved the chill out time beside the pool!

Last weekend was perfect for me, been a long time since I’ve had a weekend to myself. Chilled out a lot, rested, read, watched a movie, Rod went to a Bucks Day and me to a Hen’s Night.

And now it’s the 14th of March and it’s less than a week until my great Melbourne buddies get married. This is why I wanted March to come. Its gonna be another “Witney Place” reunion with quite a few of us travelling over for the wedding. It’s so gonna rock, I am a bridesmaid. So watch this space I am sure I’ll be posting something next week. Roll on 5pm tomorrow, I’m flying out tomorrow night – Melbs here I come, yet again :)

And then…… We are going to Phuket for a holiday to meet up with the new husband and wife – cocktails and swimming, just going to be sooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood! :-) :-) :-)

Melbourne Trip

Rod and I headed to Melbourne over the weekend for 3 days. Took the red eye there, not too bad on Virgin. Arrived at 5.30am – nothing open. So sat in the casino for an hour or so watching Commonwealth games – trying to stay awake. Went for breakfast – mmmm belgian hot chocolate and egg/bacon roll at my favourite place – Theobroma Choc Lounge - it’s a must on every trip to Melbs :-) Then we caught up with Rod’s best mate and family, theyhave a cute little one year old girl. Had lunch with them at Spencer Street shops, I did a little bit of shopping – only 20 mins worth – not enough… Got the bug… Holding out til Sunday…. Went and checked in to our mystery Wotif apartments, really nice, directly across from Queen Vic markets, close to trams. Chilled for a while, before heading to a laneway called Block Place for tea. The first place I  saw looked nice: Caffe e biscotti I liked it becuase it was also a bar. We shared yummy pumpkin bruschetta for entree -it was devine. Our mains were nice too, and so much cheaper than Perth. Didn’t stay for desert – being good…… Both exhausted by this time, with only 2 hours sleep on the trip over.

Saturday
Slept in before taking train south to see the TK’s – had the best day just hanging out with them. We went out for a nice lunch together before heading back to Haley and Richard’s new house to chill out. We played some dance game on the Wii with the kids. Had an early dinner – Mexican feast. Was great jsut sitting around the table with the family :-) H + R so kindly dropped us home.

Sunday
Rod ran in the half marathon, while I slept and went shopping at DFO. Only had a 3 hour time frame for shopping, certianly not enough when I spent an hour in the Rivers store…. But got me some good bargins. Rod did so well, ran his half marathon in 1 hr and 45 mins :-) He is a star. Afterwards we went to the lovely Fitzroy Gardens and spent the afternoon catching up with Rod’s cousins. It was nice and warm. So relaxing chilling out in the sun eating yummy food!  From there we went our separate ways I caught up with Marcus and Amber and Rod went to say goodbye to his mate. We left to ehad to the airport at 8.30pm. Had we known we could have left much later as Tiger flight was delayed!!! 3 hours later we were boarding our flight home and arriving back at our doorstep after 1.30am.

Awesome weekend though! Melbourne rocks!

Melbourne weekend

Last weekend we went to Melbourne on the red eye flight. Arrived in Melbourne Friday 5.3oam. It was freezing cold!!! We were lucky to be able to have a snooze at Rod’s cousins before heading into the city for a late lunch with Rod’s family. Very relaxing day. Beautiful sunny weather, but a tad cold. In the evening we headed to the footy, Eagles vs Carlton.

Both happy before the game

Both happy before the game

Good result for Rod’s team, my team were rubbish to say the least. But Le Cras was fantastic, he kicked an awesome goal! We had seats very close to the action, which I was happy about!.

We stayed in the city Friday night. I did a bit of shopping Saturday morning(very naughty of me, supposed to be saving for SA) and we had a lovely Belgian Hot choc at Theobroma Chocolate Lounge, Spencer Street, just the best. Basically its a mug of hot melted Belgian chocolate, my favourite!  Then we headed south on the train to my friend’s in Mitcham where we had a fantastic night at their Engagement Party.

Great shot

We spent a relaxing day with friends on the Sunday, eating left over party food and yummy chocolate cake. It was a fantastic weekend of footy, family, friends and shopping.
