RSS feeds and Google Reader

OK, I think I have my head around the topic of RSS feeds and readers now. I do already have 2 RSS feeds which (when working correctly) appear in my In Box. A great way to keep in touch with friends without visiting their websites.

I have selected 3 different blogs to add to Google Reader (as well as all Participants and Presenters blogs’ :-) ):

Tapena Wines

I travelled to Spain for the first time last year and its an understatement to say that I LOVED their tapas. We ate tapas whenever we could. Our first taste wasn’t exactly what I would call traditional tapas. We had only just arrived in Valencia, after a very long and delayed flight from Perth to Singapore to London; a mad rush to a smaller airport to jump onto a cheaper flight to Valencia. Anyway the first tapas we had was a chicken nugget on a piece of bread – I was not impressed, it had to get better (and it did).  Since then I have made tapas for my friends and I can’t get enough of them.

My favourite Tapas

West Coast Eagles

Every week I am checking out the WCE site, so it makes sense to have an RSS feed to it. It’s great to be able to read all the ins and outs, the injuries and the stories from all the AFL teams from this one RSS feed.

The LIS Education 2.0 Project

This is my library related blog I have chosen to use as an RSS feed. It arrived in my ALIA email folder and I have never had time to check it out. Now I will be update to date with the comings and goings of 2.0 technologies and libraries. Maybe everyone else would like to check this out?

PS. From using Google Reader for the week, I have deleted my Outlook RSS feeds ( too complicated…) and now read these feeds in my Google Reader, too easy!!!!! :-) And it downloads pictures much better than Outlook does.

Fun Fun Fun…….

Week One – the beginning of 10 things…. and Lifelong Learning

WOW, finally I am involved in the 10things, (part of the 23 Things) project. I never thought we’d get to take part in this exciting program. I went to a LT conference in 2007 and there was so much hype about Library / Web 2.0 and I was like, “what is this thing everyone is talking about?”. I came back asking all these questions why aren’t we doing this? It’s now 2009 and finally we are getting set to take on this 10 things journey….. very exciting…..

I’m looking forward to becoming more familiar with Web 2.0 technologies. I have heard and read words such as tagging, rss feeds, blogging, delicious, but really have no experience in using and understanding them. I think this program will be lots of fun, getting to play and learn at the same time!

I’m keen to investigate how we can use these “things” in our day-to-day activities in the library and that what we learn in this program can be put to good use and not just forgotten about.

My Habits…..

Easiest habit is Habit 2 – I realise if I want to learn more, do more and have more opportunities in work and life it is my own responsibility to seek out how to do this. This may be the reason why I am busy all the time. I really do enjoy learning and experiencing new things all the time!

Hardest habit is Habit 3 – learning that problems are challenges. I tend to get bogged down with problems and always think I should know how to fix everything in life……
